Why isn’t Hispanic considered a race on the 2010 Census form? They call it an origin and have a whole separate question for it. The form says “For this census, Hispanic origins are not races.” What do they mean by that??? Everything else on the form is a race. If a person says he is of Hispanic origin, he is also supposed to identify his race in the next question. What would a Hispanic person choose? White, Black, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian Indian, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Native Hawaiian, Guamanian, Chamorro, Samoan, or Other??? Those are the choices. Can someone explain this to me?

Hispanic is no a race but an origin. Hispanics can be all sort of races. Countries like Argentina and Uruguay are white in majority. Hispanic simply means Spanish speaker. That is why we are grouped into this category, because we all speak the same language. Same with the word “Latin”, we all come from Latin America so we are called “Latin”. Just like Europeans are called such, because they come from Europe.
Bottom line is, Hispanic=Not a race. If they are white they will mark white, if they are black they will mark black, and if they are Asian will mark Asian. Please inform yourself more, and don’t fall into the black whole of the uninformed majority, thank you.
*black hole…
That’s why I asked. Thank you for answering.
What I hate in this country is that we can’t ask racial questions without being suspected of being racist or being chastised for being uninformed. How does one get informed unless one can ask questions? How can we of different flavors get to know and love each other unless we can ask questions?
